Delaware 400

Dover International Speedway Dover, DE

Driver: Matt DiBenedetto
Sponsor: Can-Am

Race 30 of 36:

Coming off one of the best races of their season, the Go Fas Racing team and the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series makes its way to Dover, Delaware for the Gander Outdoors 400. Dover International Speedway is a high-banked 1-mile oval that will host the first race of the second round of the 2018 NASCAR Playoffs.

A well-known scheme will make its return to the circuit with Can-Am and Wholeys being represented on Matt DiBenedetto's No.32 Ford this weekend.

The Monster Mile:

Dover International Speedway, known as the Monster Mile, always brings some of the most exciting racing on the NASCAR schedule. Earlier this season, DiBenedetto and the No.32 team qualified their way into the second round of qualifying, ending up 24th after the second round was complete. The team would go on to finish 29th after 400 grueling miles fighting with the high-speed high-banked concrete oval. This week, the Can-Am/Wholeys team heads to Dover after having one of the best finishes in team history.

Last Week for the No.32 Team:

The No.32 Go Fas Racing team had a home race at Charlotte Motor Speedway last weekend. The last race of the first round of the NASCAR Playoffs also marked the debut of the "ROVAL" a combination of an infield road-course and the typical-1.5-mile NASCAR oval. With a lot of unknowns, Crew Chief Randy Cox and DiBenedetto unloaded the Superior Logistics Ford with a 'baseline' road-course setup, one which was very much to DiBenedetto's liking.

The Superior Logistics team qualified 28th and was able to manage brakes and tires during the first two stages, ending each stage one in 22nd, and stage two in 13th. A few chaotic restarts ensued as the race came to a close with DiBenedetto staying clean and clear of both. Crew Chief Randy Cox implemented a safe fuel strategy coupled with fast pit stops from the Superior Logistics pitcrew to allow DiBenedetto to fight his way to a 13th place result, a season-best finish for the No.32 team outside of superspeedways.

DiBenedetto on racing at the Monster Mile:

"I don't think there is a track on the circuit that gives you the sensation of speed like Dover does. It might only be a one-mile racetrack, but the speeds and g-forces we pull there are nearly unmatched. It is a racetrack that you're going to have to work hard at every lap and you're really out of breath even after a few laps. We've been really good there in the past but had bad luck last year, but got over that hump this year. There will be a lot of attrition this weekend because of the playoffs, so we'll focus on getting the Can-Am/Wholeys Ford as fast as possible then play the strategy safe. We want to make sure we are there competing at the end and can bring home a top-25 or top-20 finish," DiBenedetto said.
