Phoenix International Raceway Avondale, AZ
Driver: Matt DiBenedetto
Can-Am / Wholeys - ISM Raceway II
Race 35 of 36:
ISM Raceway is the site of the second-to-last race of the NASCAR season this weekend. For the Go Fas Racing team, there are few weekends more important than this. The title sponsor of the race, Can-Am, will be the primary sponsor of Matt DiBenedetto and the No.32 for the final time this season. Many Can-Am executives from across North America will be in town to take in the sites of the Can-Am 500 and cheer on DiBenedetto and the No.32 team.
A Little Bit of Pressure to End the Season:
The trip to Phoenix will be the last trip west for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series this season. A long cross-country drive will take place after the race to head back to Mooresville, NC to prepare for the season's last race in Homestead-Miami. Before that though, the Go Fas Racing team will make the most of the last short-track of the season. DiBenedetto always looks forward to heading to Phoenix, but knows that this weekend comes with welcomed pressure to perform in front of his primary sponsor.
"Everything about Phoenix is fun. From the great food in the area, to the packed grandstands, to the great racing, it's a complete package for the teams and the series. It is definitely a race I always mark off on the schedule and am excited for. We've always had a lot of speed, especially in the long run at ISM Raceway. There are a lot of changes there and everyone who works with ISC has done a great job renovating the place to make it fan-friendly while continuing to produce great racing. It reminds me a lot of many of the short tracks I raced growing up and races really well. You never really get stuck behind someone like you do at a lot of the 1.5-mile racetracks and it's a great place to have the cut-off before the last round of the Playoffs because of how much passing it produces," DiBenedetto said.
DiBenedetto on expectations for ISM Raceway:
"I know that Crew Chief Randy Cox has brought us a great piece. Phoenix and Richmond are pretty similar with setup information and Randy has always given us a ton of speed at Richmond. With what we've learned there, I know we'll be fast right off the trailer and from there we just have to ensure that we have good long run speed. We've got a lot of pressure with Can-Am being the title sponsor of the race and I can't wait to meet everyone from their group and spend time with them this weekend. We want to close this year out on a high note," DiBenedetto said.
